A bill aimed at streamlining civil litigation by allowing an attorney to sign a settlement for a client, will go into effect Jan. 1.
AB 2723, authored by Assemblymember David Chiu, D-San Francisco, and sponsored by the Consumer Attorneys of California and the California Defense Counsel, was signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The measure allows counsel to sign off on an agreement if their client gives permission.
