Gov. Gavin Newsom eased some concerns of prosecutors in signing a bill that will allow judges to grant diversion for almost all misdemeanors, hinting it will be amended next year to exclude driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
In a letter to members of the State Assembly after signing AB 3234 Wednesday, Newsom said he didn't agree defendants convicted of that offense should be granted diversion.
