Judicial Council is asked for rules on health safety for in-custody defendants
Defense attorneys said in a letter they are concerned criminal defendants are at an increased risk of contracting the virus because they say superior courts are inconsistently enforcing safety protocols.




As superior courts reopen for judicial proceedings and county jail populations begin to rebound, some attorneys are questioning why the California Judicial Council hasn't issued new guidance to superior courts to prevent the virus from spreading among defendants awaiting court appearances.
