Taiwan chipmaker pays $60M fine, will help US against Chinese partner

The Justice Department called the prosecution “an example of … successful efforts to defend American companies from those who try to cheat and steal their technology.”

Taiwanese chipmaker UMC agreed to pay $60 million, the second largest fine ever in a criminal trade secrets case, and help the U.S. prosecute Chinese chipmaker Fujian Jinhua, the Department of Justice announced.
