Northern Californians choose legally diverse judges in 3 races

Campaigning in part on increasing diversity in the legal community, Criminal defense attorney Elena Condes said voters recognized the need to bring a wider range of perspectives to the bench. She emphasized her background as a Latina, lesbian and extensive work as a defense attorney.

Criminal defense attorney Elena Condes was elected to the Alameda County Superior Court, according to voting results Wednesday.

Condes has spent her entire 27-year legal career in the county. She beat civil rights attorney Mark Fickes.
