Judges without courtrooms are still working every day, helping in some counties with back office work, search warrants and family law proceedings.

California courts have cut their workforces or found creative ways to save money in the face of the $200 million budget shortfall for the current fiscal year.

Some courts are faring better than others in terms of what was sacrificed.

The San Diego County Superior Courts had to cut $13 million in expenditures, said Court Executive Officer Michael Roddy.
