Felony charges have been filed against convicts in unemployment scam
“Given the magnitude of the fraud within the state prisons, county jails, other detention facilities and in our communities, it should be anticipated that the amount of loss is in the billions of dollars,” said Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert, who heads the task force.




Several California convicts who were allegedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in pandemic unemployment benefits have been indicted on felony charges, a task force of federal and county prosecutors said this week, just days after the state temporarily suspended unemployment payments in an apparent effort to stymie what is believed to be the largest taxpayer fraud scheme in California history.
