San Diego County clears backlog of 2,030 rape kits, DA says

The three-year project resulted in kits ranging from three to 30 years old being tested, and one suspect being charged in a seven-year-old child molestation case.

Testing on a backlog of 2,030 rape kits from 12 police agencies in San Diego County has been completed, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced Wednesday.

The achievement brings to a close a three-year project in which 2,030 kits that ranged from three to 30 years old were tested by independent lab Bode Cellmark Forensics in Virginia.
