Split panel says judge shouldn’t have OK’d Tinder settlement

Objectors argued the settlement of an age discrimination case against Tinder was a “sweetheart deal.”

In a class action involving dating app Tinder, a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Tuesday reversed a judge's approval of a class settlement, vacating a judgment and attorney fee award in a federal class action.

Objectors argued the settlement between plaintiff Lisa Kim, her attorneys, and Tinder was a "sweetheart deal" that benefited them while denying any meaningful relief to other members of the class.
