Stanford professors seek end to Chinese researcher spy prosecutions

The China Initiative has “deviated significantly from its claimed mission,” and is fostering a hostile work environment for Chinese researchers unfairly targeted by federal prosecutors, stated a letter signed by 177 Stanford University faculty members.

A group of Stanford University professors on Monday urged the Department of Justice to end a Trump administration program aimed at prosecuting cases related to Chinese espionage at U.S. universities. They raised concerns about the effort fueling anti-Asian discrimination.
