Bill would ban use of rape victims’ DNA in other investigations

“This proposal, if approved, will lessen law enforcement’s ability to solve violent crimes and deliver justice to countless victims,” said Greg Totten, CEO of the California District Attorneys Association.

A bill by Sen. Scott Wiener would contain a blanket prohibition against using sexual assault victims' DNA to link them to another crime, regardless of whether the person is a suspect in a murder or other violent act, his office said Monday.
