State Bar board votes to seek annual inflation hike in fees

"The Legislative Analyst's Office recommended against an inflationary increase, noting that it could limit legislative oversight," the bar staff's agenda outline acknowledged, as it recommended the push for automatic annual fee hikes.

As a legislative priority, the State Bar Board of Trustees voted Thursday to seek an annual inflationary adjustment to the mandatory portion of attorney licensing fees and to increase the funding available "for efforts to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession."

Bar staff official Donna Hershkowitz suggested during the presentation, "An appropriate adjustment would be a 4.7% increase from last year."
