Newsom names 8 new judicial officers

Gavin Newsom announced eight judicial appointments, including a new appellate court justice and presiding justice and the first openly transgender judge appointed to the bench in California.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced eight judicial appointments across the state on Friday, including a new justice on the 4th District Court of Appeal and the promotion of Justice Maria E. Stratton to presiding justice of the 2nd District Court of Appeals, Division 8.

Stratton, a Democrat, was previously a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from 2006 to 2018.
