FTC sues Intuit over ‘free’ TurboTax advertisements

The software company deceives Americans who are eligible to use TurboTax for free under an IRS agreement with commercial tax preparation companies, the complaint states.

Wading into litigation that alleges Intuit is misleading consumers intending to access the free tax filing program the company offers with the IRS for lower income Americans, the Federal Trade Commission asked a federal magistrate judge to force Intuit to change its advertising for the TurboTax software.
