Yahoo must pay $15M in search feature patent litigation

“This has been a long and hard-fought battle spanning more than a decade,” said Courtland L. Internet superpower Yahoo Inc. was ordered to pay $15 million by a Northern California federal jury for infringing on the patented search suggestion feature that appears on the website’s search engine.

Wednesday’s verdict and award for damages was a reduction from patent holder Droplets’ original proposed amount that exceeded $260 million, and the jury did not find infringement regarding four other Yahoo features. Droplets Inc. v. Yahoo! ...
