Bill advances to change name of Hastings law school

Lead author Sen. Tom Umberg, D-Santa Ana, presented SB 1288 as a "first step in this process to remove Serranus Hastings' name from the college of law." He later said a final name for the school would come after "further discussions."

The Senate Education Committee advanced a bill to change the name of UC Hastings College of Law after a contentious hour-long hearing on Wednesday morning.
