5 counties reach deal with PG&E over fire
District attorneys from the five counties defended their decision to jettison criminal complaints in favor of a global civil settlement. They said money brought in from the civil settlement would far exceed any criminal penalties.




Pacific Gas & Electric reached a deal worth "hundreds of millions of dollars," with Butte, Lassen, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama counties to settle what initially had been criminal complaints against the utility company stemming from its role in causing the Dixie Fire in 2021.
