Disciplinary hearings against Orange County judge begin Monday

Superior Court Judge Michael F. Murray is accused of hiding knowledge of an altered police report in a murder case he prosecuted 17 years ago.

In the dark, early morning hours of July 7, 2006, a new stove still in its box tumbled out the back of a thief's pickup to land on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim. An L.A. County deputy sheriff on the way to work swerved to avoid the stove, struck a big rig and died.

A California Highway Patrol investigator on the scene initially reported the deputy's excessive speed caused the accident, but the report was altered to blame the thief, who was late...
