Senate OKs judge for Los Angeles; Fresno pick is questioned
Superior Court Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett will replace U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real, who died in 2019. Superior Court Judge Isabel I. de Alba faced no serious opposition in the Judiciary Committee to her nomination to sit on the federal court in Fresno.

Los Angeles County Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett was confirmed as a federal judge Wednesday evening by a comfortable margin in the U.S. Senate.
She was approved 62-33 to fill U.S. District Judge Manuel L. Real’s long-vacant seat in the Central District of California, picking up a number of Republican votes.
Real, who was appointed to the federal bench by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, died in 2019.
