Santa Clara sheriff loses bid to dismiss corruption charges

The four counts that the sheriff’s attorney, Allen Ruby of Los Gatos, described as “legally insufficient” related to a December grand jury’s formal accusation that Laurie Smith improperly issued concealed carry licenses to certain donors to her political campaign.

Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith failed in her latest attempt to dismiss four of the seven counts brought against her for an alleged scheme of corruption involving high-powered political donors and impermissible benefits received and bestowed upon certain VIPs.
