National deal reached with Intuit over ‘free’ tax software ads

The Mountain View company still faces an FTC investigation over allegations that it misled low-income consumers.

Several states, the City of Los Angeles and Santa Clara County, announced Wednesday that Intuit Inc., maker of TurboTax, agreed to pay $141 million to settle claims of deceptive practices in connection with its “free” tax preparation software for low-income taxpayers.
