Kings County DA dismisses criminal charges of stillborn death

“With reproductive rights under attack across the nation, the dismissal … is a victory for justice and the rule of law,” said Bonta in a news release. “California law is clear: We do not criminalize people for the loss of a pregnancy.”

Kings County DA dismisses criminal charges of stillborn death

Kings County District Attorney Keith L. Fagundes’ office decided Monday to dismiss the manslaughter charge against Adora Perez, whose child was stillborn after she took methamphetamine during her pregnancy.

The announcement was greeted with praise from Attorney General Rob Bonta, who had sided with Perez and filed a brief on her behalf.
