Irell wins $218M jury verdict in patent case against bank

The jury also ruled PNC Bank willfully infringed the four patents, which leaves open the possibility that damages could be trebled.

Irell & Manella LLP has scored another big-money victory for the United Services Automobile Association in a patent infringement lawsuit against a bank over patents on technology used to deposit checks online.

A Texas jury awarded the plaintiff $218.45 million in damages late Friday after concluding PNC Bank N.A. infringed four of the association’s patents after deliberating for four hours.
