Quotas for women on corporate boards found unconstitutional
“The lack of any effort to limit the remedial scheme to those who suffered such discrimination is fatal to the scheme,” wrote Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis.
California’s landmark law requiring a minimum number of women on corporate boards was struck down as an unconstitutional violation of state law by a Los Angeles County judge.
Advocates and detractors of the law, SB 826, said they were not surprised by the decision by Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis, an appointee of Gov. George Deukmejian.
The decision was filed Friday but revealed Monday.
