Pipeline company to pay $230M in Santa Barbara oil spill settlement

“It took seven years of extensive litigation, but with the hard work of federal District Court Judge Philip S. Gutierrez, who kept tight reins on the litigation, the dedication of the plaintiffs’ team of law firms and determined mediators, a meaningful settlement was reached just short of a jury trial,” said lead plaintiffs’ trial counsel A. A $230 million settlement has been reached between Plains All American Pipeline and a class of Santa Barbara workers and residents in a lawsuit regarding the 2015 Refugio Beach oil spill, in which a corroded pipeline spilled some 15,000 barrels of crude into the Pacific Ocean.
