Judge cuts attorney fees in $98M Mattel settlement with investors
“The court finds persuasive class counsel’s arguments and evidence concerning the excellent value of the results achieved through settlement, the riskiness and complexity of the litigation, the skill and quality of counsel’s work, the contingent nature of the fee, and the significant financial burdens counsel carried during the course of litigation,” wrote U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi.




A federal judge in Los Angeles denied a request of $25 million in attorney fees, slashing the amount to $13.6 million in the Mattel class action lawsuit due to concern about an “unreasonable” windfall.
The fee decision by U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi was part of his final approval of a $98 million settlement between the toy maker Mattel and investors.
