Second anti-SLAAP motion denied to LA archdiocese
“The Archdiocese focused on a handful of allegations from plaintiff’s complaint which could be characterized as speech — or, more precisely, the decision not to speak — on an issue of public interest, and argued that those allegations were, in fact, the basis of the complaint against it,” the panel stated.




The 2nd District Court of Appeal denied for a second time an anti-SLAPP motion filed by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los Angeles that sought dismissal of a complaint involving a priest who allegedly sexually abused children. The seven adult plaintiffs, who were underage students during the time of the alleged crimes, claim the church authorities were negligent in failing to warn of the now ex-priest’s proclivities.
