Another retirement gives Newsom chance to remake 3rd District

Three newly open seats will allow Gov. Gavin Newsom to remake the small but important 11-justice court that often hears appeals related to state government and elections.

Vance W. Raye, presiding justice of the 3rd District Court of Appeal, will retire effective Wednesday, the Daily Journal has learned.

Raye informed staff by email on Friday, according to a source speaking off the record. Representatives of the court did not respond to an email seeking comment.
