PG&E pleads not guilty to criminal charges related to deadly Zogg wildfire, but accepts fault

“There’s no practical way to send PG&E to jail, or make the company wear an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs to court,” Berger Kahn attorney Adam Romney said.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. on Thursday pleaded not guilty to criminal charges after its equipment started a devastating wildfire — this one in Shasta County in 2020.

“PG&E caused the Zogg Fire by failing to perform their legal duties. Their failure was reckless, it was criminally negligent, and it resulted in the death of four people,” said Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie A. Bridgett.
