Judge abused discretion in supplemental jurisdiction ruling, circuit says

“The 9th Circuit basically said that Judge [Stephen V.] Wilson was wasting the state court’s time by forcing it to relitigate,” said , Dennis J. Price of Potter Handy. “We had to go to the 9th Circuit to get the judge to effectively just sign the judgment.”

Three judges of the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals reversed and remanded a decision by U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson in Los Angeles, finding he abused his discretion in when he declined supplemental jurisdiction in a case involving the federal disabilities rights law and the California Unruh Civil Rights Act.
