Legal experts are uncertain and divided about the impact of last week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the California Private Attorney General’s Act, leaving companies and employees in uncharted waters.

The ruling was pulled together by an unusual coalition of liberal and conservative justices who appear to have agreed in part because they were not on the same page about the decision’s impact.
