California AG says he will defend state’s gun laws while obeying high court
“We know of no other constitutional right that an individual may exercise only after demonstrating to government officers some special need,” U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for a 6-5 majority, striking down a 1905 New York law after concluding that requiring applicants to show “proper cause” to get a concealed carry license violates the Second Amendment.

California elected officials said Thursday they would work to enact new gun control legislation while defending existing laws even after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a New York state law requiring gun owners to prove “good cause” to carry a concealed weapon is unconstitutional.
But a legal expert who blasted Thursday’s decision and an attorney challenging Second Amendment laws expressed skepticism the plans would work.
