Fresno City Council defamation spat ends with suit withdrawal
Bredefeld’s defense attorney, Walter W. Whalen of Whalen Law Group, said in a phone interview, “The lawsuit really doesn’t have any merit, and I think our version is that he anticipated losing the motion and that’s why he filed the dismissal with prejudice today.”




Fresno City Council President Nelson Esparza dropped his defamation lawsuit against Council Member Garry Bredefeld, saying he did not want the taxpayers to have to pay for the expenses to defend Bredefeld.
Esparza said in the lawsuit that Bredefeld defamed him, accusing him of extorting the former city attorney, Doug T. Sloan.
