Analysis as much as law in dispute in prayer ruling
Justice Sonia Sotomayor included several photographs in her dissent of Monday’s school prayer case showing an assistant football coach surrounded by student-athletes during his postgame prayers.
The U.S. Supreme Court has disagreed about interpretations of the law and of the Constitution quite a bit in recent weeks, including in high-profile cases about abortion and gun rights.
On Monday, justices again differed sharply not only on the law but also about the basic facts of a case about the rights of an assistant football coach’s right to pray after games in a reversal of a 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling.
