Proposed classes of consumers sue Beyond Meat over protein claims

The complaints filed in the Central District of California increase legal woes of the plant-based meat producer. A competitor and a class of shareholders have also sued.

Two consumer class actions were filed against Beyond Meat Inc. alleging, as a competitor has, that the plant-based meat producer is lying about the protein content of its products.

“Beyond Meat products’ labels, and defendant’s related marketing claims, are false and misleading because defendant miscalculates and overstates the products’ protein content, which is measured in grams per serving determined by nitrogen testing,” wrote Trenton...
