Lawmakers grapple with legal issues of abortion travel

According to sources speaking on background, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration told lawmakers he did not want state money to go toward providing travel for women coming from out of state. Potential legal liability may be one reason.

Some abortion rights supporters were surprised and disappointed when the new state budget did not include money to help women travel from out of state to receive abortions in California. But money for travel may still be coming.
