San Francisco gets $54M opioid settlement from Teva and Allergan

The city has now negotiated $120 million in cash payments and aid from companies who settled out of the case. The others are Purdue Pharmaceuticals; Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc.; and Actavis LLC. Walgreens is now the sole defendant left as the litigation heads toward a bench verdict from U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer.

Hours before lawyers for the city and county of San Francisco were scheduled to begin closing arguments, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan PLC, two of the remaining three defendants accused of pumping opioids into the city, agreed to pay $54 million combined to settle out of the case.

Walgreens is now the sole defendant left as the litigation heads toward a bench verdict from U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer.
