Inadequate instruction in schools predates pandemic, experts say

"The scope and extent of this matter is critical," Kathryn A. Eidmann of Public Counsel said in a phone call Tuesday. "The consequences of remote learning exposed, fueled, and extended the opportunity gap" in the educational system.

Seeking to continue a lawsuit filed early in the pandemic challenging the quality of learning in California schools, plaintiffs filed a court declaration from two nationally UCLA professors that concluded the state prior to COVID had not met its constitutional obligations to ensure basic and equal education opportunities to all students.
