Device maker settles claim it paid kickbacks to doctors

Biotronik agreed to pay a $12.95 million fine to settle the False Claims Act case.

Medical device manufacturer Biotronik Inc. agreed to pay $12.95 million to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by paying kickbacks to physicians to encourage the use of the company’s pacemakers and defibrillators, the Department of Justice announced Friday.
