Texas judge loses grip on patent cases, a win for California tech companies

Patent litigation case filings are likely to shift to the District of Delaware and the Central District of California.

Over the past four years, U.S. District Judge Alan D. Albright of the Western District of Texas has emerged as the go-to judge for plaintiffs suing for patent infringement. His Waco courthouse is where a quarter of all patent cases are filed.

But as of Monday, the race to file in Waco came to an abrupt halt.
