TikTok will pay $92M to settle biometric data collection claims

The deal comes as TikTok and its Chinese parent ByteDance face increased scrutiny over how it handles U.S. user data.

The social media company TikTok Inc. has agreed to pay $92 million to settle allegations that its collection of biometric data violates privacy laws.

U.S. District Judge John Lee of the Northern District of Illinois awarded $29.3 million of the settlement money to plaintiffs’ attorneys from 31 firms.
