COVID has placed tremendous strains on all in the legal profession. I last appeared in court in person on March 13, 2020, the Friday before the lockdown. Since then, judges, courtroom staff and attorneys have needed to adjust to remote appearances. To be sure, judges had and have a huge backlog of cases. There have been inevitable delays in getting motions heard and jury trials conducted, and as attorneys we understand this as well.
