Furniture rental chain, sued repeatedly in state, to pay $15.5M settlement

“Consumers often hope rent-to-own agreements will lessen the cost, not realizing the total price they pay will end up being much higher. Today’s judgment will provide critical relief to tens of thousands of Californians — and, importantly, prevent Rent-A-Center from continuing this conduct in the future,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Attorney General Rob Bonta reached a $15.5 million settlement with the nation’s largest furniture and electronics retailer, which did not admit the accusation of misleading marketing, but has been sued before in California on similar claims of violating consumer protection laws.
