Whatever Hastings’ new name, a lawsuit seems assured

The law school board will meet again Aug. 10. The agenda includes a “renaming update” during its open session, followed by a closed session on “Litigation Issues Related to Renaming.”

UC Hastings may finally have its new name. But the school is also preparing for potential litigation from opponents of the name change.

The Legislature added amendments to AB 1936 on Monday, requesting the university’s board of directors to vote for one of two choices: “the University of California, San Francisco, College of the Law” or “the University of California, Powe’no’m, College of the Law.”
