‘Mole’ or ‘scapegoat’? Arguments in Twitter spy trial wrap

The impassioned battle of competing narratives presented in closing arguments marked the end of the trial against Ahmad Abouammo, a former media partnerships manager at Twitter accused of conspiring with his two absconded co-defendants to turn over the private information of certain Twitter accounts to Saudi officials.

Aformer Twitter employee acted as a “mole” for the Saudi government to spy on dissenters in a political conspiracy based upon “power, greed, and lies,” the Department of Justice argued Thursday, while a defense attorney argued her client was a scapegoat for Twitter’s broader problems.
