LA water bill case ends with $4.49M fee for last class counsel

Brian Kabateck, who has not been paid since Judge Elihu M. Berle appointed him three years ago to ensure the plaintiffs had been fully reimbursed, and was paid $4.49 million in fees after obtaining an additional $40 million for the class.

A judge granted $4.49 million in fees plus 83,759 in costs Friday to Kabateck LLP, which over the past three years obtained an additional $40 million for the water customer plaintiffs in the litigation scandal that led to federal charges and plea deals by several officials in the City Attorney's Office and the Department of Water and Power.
