Cisco can’t force state to arbitrate caste bias case

Safety of witness’ family in India outweighs right to know complainant’s identify, 6th District rules. The case is being closely watched by some activists who say that India’s caste system is being imported to the United States, specifically in Silicon Valley.

The state secured two procedural victories in its caste discrimination lawsuit against Cisco Systems Inc., keeping the case out of arbitration and potentially protecting the identity of a former Cisco employee who is considered lower in India’s caste system and is concerned about the safety of his family back home.
