Final non-exam bar licensure plan not expected until 2023

The Blue Ribbon Commission on the Future of the Bar Exam has discussed “a reduction of the subject matters covered on the exam and a de-emphasis on memorization,” while working to finalize a proposal to make the exam nonmandatory, said member Susan S. Bakhshian.

In a State Bar meeting on Wednesday, a member of the commission reviewing possibilities for licensure without passing the bar exam said they have not reached a consensus on an approach, and that their recommendation to the Supreme Court isn’t expected until early 2023.
