VW to settle 36,000 Audi transmission defect claims

“Significantly, the 9-year/90,000-mile reimbursement period represents almost a doubling of the vehicle’s original 4-year or 50,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty period that had covered such repairs,” wrote VW’s attorneys, Michael B. Gallub, Brian T. Carr, and Craig L Winterman of Herzfeld & Rubin.

Volkswagen agreed to settle a 2017 class action by more than 36,000 Audi customers who claimed the transmissions on some models from 2010-2012 were defective and caused their cars to enter “limp mode.”

In the settlement agreement presented to U.S. District Judge Haywood S. Gilliam Jr. in Oakland on Thursday, the parties agreed to a compensation formula that will allow plaintiffs to recover up to the full price for their transmission repairs...
