Avenatti asks delay in sentence, says he can’t prepare
Avenatti argued in the application filed Thursday that because of COVID-19 restrictions at the federal detention center where he is being held, he “has not had any ability to have any visits, including legal visits, nor has he had any access to the law library or any other legal materials.”




Suspended attorney Michael J. Avenatti asked for a delay of his Oct. 3 Orange County sentencing hearing, at which a judge is to determine how much he will pay in restitution and fines after he pleaded guilty to several counts of fraud against clients and the IRS. Federal prosecutors opposed Avenatti’s request, saying the court has given ample time to prepare.
